My uncle had his at Oshkosh last week for getting around the campground, so I took it out for a spin a few times.

Holy crap, is it fast. I’m not exactly sure what year it is (I think 2015-2016). It’s got a Rotax v-twin (~45 horsepower I believe) and a CVT, as well as a viscous coupling to engage the front wheels.

I can see why people kill themselves on these things so often. I was taking it pretty easy on flat land. I can’t imagine going hard over rough terrain.

Looked pretty much like this one, although I don’t think it was an “L”:

Uncles are the best. Mine took my cousins and I to the desert to ride his Banshees. Roughly the same horsepower as that Can-Am, but 355 lbs lighter. It’s a miracle that the only person seriously injured on one of them was my uncle himself. He went over the bars into an embankment and got a serious concussion.

Although his remained stock, it’s fairly easy to get 70+ hp out of them. The real maniacs are pushing 150 hp. I guess you get used to it after a while, but to be honest, the stock ones were fast enough for me.

I was looking at other trim levels for the Outlanders and they can be had with a 62hp Rotax. I can’t imagine how crazy 150hp would be.

It’s blow-your-hair-back-through-your-helmet levels of insane. Just imagine what you were riding with half the weight. That’s the stock Banshee.

On one of our trips, a friend of mine tagged along. He owned a Polaris with about the same specs as that Outlander. He was bottoming out the suspension on the transition onto the dunes, then jumping it off the top of the dunes as far as we were jumping the Banshees. My uncle offered him an opportunity to jump the Banshee. On his first try, he jumped it twice as far as we were. After a couple of jumps, he’d had enough. He thought it was too fast to be safe.

And that’s not even a sport quad, that thing is basically just a small tractor.

To be fair, at least where I grew up, a good 9/10's fatal 4 wheeler accidents were/are because people avoid the law/warnings on the 4wheeler and take it on the street.
